The names of the voice actresses are linked to their info pages in the Anime News Network encyclopedia. Images and descriptions are from the character page on the new anime's official site. Some are slightly different from the old anime or the manga, I believe. There are very full character descriptions and images for the old anime on Wikipedia. Japanese Wikipedia is also great. The old anime's official site has a good single page with images and names. The images there link to pictures of the voice actresses, all of whom I believe are the same in both anime.
After two episodes, I'm still not very involved in the story of the new anime, but I think the backgrounds, character design, colors, humor, and overall look are great. Shinbou Akiyuki (the director) just keeps doing his thing and getting better and better at it.

how come you're not summarizing bokura ga ita anymore? i always enjoyed reading your summaries as well as your analysis of the show and the relationships that revolve around it. it doesnt matter that the english translation is coming out sooner. are there any new/old animes that are similar to bokura ga ita? (im a sucker for those kinds of animes)...running out of shows to watch. ok thanks. great blog by the way!

What black characters? I get your point, but the Wikipedia character page says that Mana is half Puerto Rican and half Japanese; and Zazie's origins are unclear, but one picture shows her with claws, so she's probably not human.
Anyway, I just followed the exact order that's on the new characters page, so what you see is what they gave.
Ana, I'm sorry not to be still blogging that great show, Bokura, but it was just taking me too much time, so I took the other blogger and the subs as an excuse for bowing out. If those things slow down, I'll try to jump back in to take up the slack. It's true I have a quite different attitude toward the show than the guy who's blogging it now (happy as I am that he's doing it).
The only anime I can think of that's at all similar is KareKano (His and Her Circumstances) but it isn't that similar. Paradise Kiss has a romance and a tough guy, but it isn't anywhere near as satisfying as this.
