Seiyuu (voice actors) get too little credit for the work they do -- at least among non-Japanese. I guess it's natural, when you can't understand what they're saying. But for me, seiyuu are as important as character design and animation in creating a character. And the lively world of seiyuu-worship in Japan is fascinating. Some seiyuu are cult stars.
Some anime this season are heavy with star seiyuus. To help me keep straight who plays whom, I've made tables showing who plays which character -- with pics of both character and seiyuus. Seiyuus' names are linked to a page of information about them, either on Anime News Network or in the hashihime seiyuu gallery. And I've noted a few of each seiyuu's major roles. Surnames first, in the Japanese manner.
Otome wa Boku ni Koi Shiteru characters and seiyuus
(Horie Yui, Asano Masumi, Kanda Akemi, Gotou Yuuko, Matsuki Miyu, etc.)
Lovely Idol characters and seiyuus
(Nogawa Sakura, Nakahara Mai, Chihara Minori, Gotou Yuuko, Sakai Kanako, etc.)
And here are tables for some other current shows, but without pictures of the seiyuus:
Mamoru-kun ni Megami no Shukufuku wo
(Takahashi Mikako, Noto Mamiko, Ono Daisuke, Kimura Akiko, Inokuchi Yuka, etc.)
Saiunkoku Monogatari(Kuwashima Houko, Seki Tomokazu, Namikawa Daisuke, etc.)
(Satou Rina, Kanda Akemi, Horie Yui, Nonaka Ai, Kobayashi Yu, Noto Mamiko, Kuwatani Natsuko, etc., etc.)
I can't guarantee that I will keep watching all these shows. I am pretty disappointed in Lovely Idol at the moment, despite the great cast. But Saiunkoku, Negima, Otoboku and Mamoru-kun all seem quite excellent to me, in their various ways.
