I can't resist posting it for others to see.She took it with her own cell-phone camera after spending the better part of a day getting her hair dyed and styled. She said how much she enjoyed sitting there talking with the stylists and working out what color to use. It ended up being a mix of a number of colors, with a little pink included.
Photos like this, taken at arm's length with her cell-phone, seem to me to show Aya more real than the pro shots where she is posing for the photographer and the staff. In these informal shots, she appears to be more herself.
And that self has been going through a lot recently. The big success of Lucky Star and the Suzumiya Haruhi live event DVD are good things, but they also increase the pressure on her to make the most of her current popularity. And meanwhile she has just spent a week in hospital getting her appendix out, with the otaku "community" outside raging about a supposed relationship with rocker/seiyuu Taniyama Kishou.
In any case, for me, these personal photos show the most attractive Aya: natural, vulnerable, serious, often comic. Here are two more photos from that day, taken by the stylist. Aya was getting her hair done for jacket photos and the PV (music video) of her new single, which will come out in the fall. I've added a photo that a horrified post on 2channel said made her look 35. Lol.

I'm not sure about the whole crying bit being because she's exhausted and all. To me, I think it's just something she does at the end of lives or whatnot to show how much she enjoyed doing them. Case and point being how she didn't shed a tear during the horrible set up for the SOS-dan invasion tour at AX07, heh. She IS in the acting biz so it'll touch a few hearts to show some tears (me being one of them!)
Previous comments may seem out of place, but only because I've changed the blog text based on them. The photo itself is what I'm really posting here. Images that show her vulnerability do haunt me, but the mere photo itself is what I'm really interested in here.
As for whether her crying at the end of shows is faked, I've looked for that, and it doesn't seem so to me. I've seen it three times. The first was in a clip from 2-3 years ago when she was an almost anonymous part of a large group doing a very athletic and complicated dance. At the end of that, she wasn't the only one weeping. I think the weeping is a kind of painful relief and joy, not anxiety. So when she was anxious at AX, weeping was not in the cards.
don't forget the gekisou event where she not only cried once but thrice (twice on stage and a third during the credit roll). yeah, i'd say those are tears of joy and relief. i mean come on, she had like 5 or 7 routines to perform in one night for SHnG.
as for AX, if she cried, it would've been because of the poor organization of the whole thing, heh.

was shouko-tan part of that group too? i think i have a vague recollection of that group you're talking about.
