Hirano Aya in Fist of the North Star OVA

Hirano Aya will play Sara in a new Fist of the North Star OVA called Fist of the North Star: The Legend of Toki (真救世主伝説 北斗の拳 トキ伝 Shin Kyūseishu Densetsu Hokuto no Ken: Toki-den), which is scheduled to go on sale on March 26, 2008.

Aya reports in her blog that she went to the atelier of mangaka Hara Tetsuo 原哲夫 to shoot video for the DVD extras. This was a big deal for her, since Fist of the North Star has been one of her favorite mangas. Lines from the series were apparently a running gag on the set of Suzumiya Haruhi. Sugita Tomokazu is supposed to have given Gotou Yuuko her nickname of "Gotuuza-sama" in imitation of the names in Fist.

At the door to Hara-sensei's workshop was a life-size golden statue of Kenshirou. Aya said that Hara-sensei was very nice and gave her a lot of Fist of the North Star goods.

Aya will have good company in this one-episode OVA. The other main female role, Lin, will be played by Sakamoto Maaya. And the music will be by Kajiura Yuki.

I notice you were very careful not to express any personal opinion about Fist of the North Star. ;-)

I'm happy that Aya-san has work, but I once saw about 10 minutes of some old anime episode in the series, and regretted that I'd never get those 10 minutes back.

What I learned: apparently, you don't qualify as a manly warrior, until your fist's blows are powerful enough to cause your victim's body to explode!

@basic.syntax -- Well, I have never felt the need to actually watch Hokuto no Ken...until now. I do know that Aya has more than once expressed her affection for it, so I'm happy she gets a chance to appear. In elementary or middle school, she apparently hung out with the boys, lol.

Somehow I knew you'd end up watching Hokuto No Ken one day. Keep in mind it's still primarily the bloody fists and brawling action type show, and nothing Aya Hirano does is going to make a difference in that.

I found the original somewhat entertaining for a while, but it grows old as do all Toei series that run a long time. It didn't help that every episode was quite formulaic. Basicaly Ken enters some town, beats up all the thugs in it who attack him, squares off against their leader and wins by using a technique that causes them to explode a few seconds later.

He also seems to have an infinite supply of shirts. Go figure...

Hokuto no Ken is basically a legendary anime right now. I'm not surprised even girls like it.

Also, Kajiura music + Toki? It's going to be insanely epic.
