Emirin did a one-hour live Saturday at Toudai's May Festival.
She says in her blog that it went well. She sang three songs: Egao no Katachi, 2nd Season, and Ashita no Uta. The enthusiasm of the audience helped her a lot.
And there was a talk session that she enjoyed as well. She thanked everyone for coming.
Here are a couple of photos. These give the first distant views of how well her orthodontic work is going:
She's finally smiling with her mouth open.

With her teeth fixed she looks so much better though even if she didn't fix them she's still beautiful.
Aww she's even more prettier now that her teeth are fixed.
I've always admired Emiri Katou's work. Good to see her smiling happily for the camera!
I miss her old teeth.
Her smile seems unnatural to me. Not sure if its because I am used to seeing a closed mouth style from her or if it really is a scary smile.
@Anonymouses -- I don't miss her old teeth. And I don't see her smile as much more artificial than before. Entertainers' smiles are almost always artificial. But she may still be learning how to smile convincingly showing her teeth. It does look a bit odd. That outfit in front of a room full of college otaku gives me a bit of the willies, too. But it's her life.
The usual crap newsblog speaks about this, but I'd rather say the orthodontic work definitely improved her self-confidence, especially as she's required to go public.
Even if one's a seiyuu, appearances matter much now as they're getting more exposure than ever before.
