Fans have discovered a series of TV science shows online in which a young Yuuki Aoi is the presenter. The show is called The Brand New Science News, and eight 15-minute shows are online here.
Here is a three-minute clip from one show:
The clip is the first three minutes of the fourth 15-minute show. This one is about undersea methane and methane hydrate, a white deposit on the ocean floor that could become an important source of natural gas.
The first minute shows Ao-chan in two guises -- the main presenter, docile White Aoi, and her alter ego, Black Aoi, who spices the show with doubts and comments and enthusiasm. The second minute shows a Tokyo University professor talking about methane hydrate. And the third minute shows the two Aois again.
The shows date from 2007, when Ao-chan was 14-15. They come in the same year as her last show using the name "Yabusaki Aoi," playing Yumeno Koto in Onegai My Melody Sukkiri; and just before her breakthrough 2008 performance, now under the name "Yuuki Aoi," playing Murasaki in Kure-nai. She is billed as "Yuuki Aoi" in this show.
One thing for sure: her skills have grown a lot in the past three years.
Fans on 2channel, where I found the link, are entranced by young Ao-chan, in both her guises: pure, straight White Aoi, and sassy Black Aoi:
One poster today says he saw the show on his local cable channel a while ago and remarked on the seiyuu-like presenter, but didn't notice the name.
