Seiyuu Yuuki Aoi -- Dai Maou Took My "First"

"Ichiban Ushiro no Dai Maou was the show that took my 'first'," jokes seiyuu Yuuki Aoi. As Korone in Dai Maou, she had to make a little sound like someone having sex. It took instruction from older seiyuus before she could get it right.

Ao-chan was speaking August 20 as host of an awards ceremony for Hobby Japan light novels. Dai Maou was based on a Hobby Japan title, as is her current show, Hyakka Ryouran - Samurai Girls.

Ao-chan said that her character in Hyakka Ryouran, Yagyuu Juubei, is very cute, but her charm comes even more from what a cool person she is. "I've fallen in love with her," she laughed. "She's like a big puppy dog that everyone loves."

"At recording sessions, since I'm the youngest, everyone is always petting and comforting me. Kotobuki Minako is the same age as me, only a few months older, but she does it, too." The report on website says that with stories like these, Ao-chan created a nice atmosphere at the event.

Hyakka Ryouran will not start until October, but there was a preview broadcast of episode one Friday night. Ao-chan's character made only a brief appearance, but within a few seconds, she had given us two quite different voices, both new voices for Ao-chan.

Here is a combined clip of the two voices Ao-chan uses in this episode: first, the voice she uses when her character, Yagyuu Juubei, is in her unawakened form, falling naked from the sky; and then there is a bit of her after she has transformed into her real form of a fully-accoutered woman warrior. The warrior Juubei says: "I am Yagyuu Juubei," in a completely different, rich and resonant voice:

Seiyuu Yuuki Aoi's Favorite Music

In her blog post on Friday, Yuuki Aoi revealed some of her own favorite music: Radwimps and SuzukiP.

She wrote that she recently spent a long time drawing on the computer with a pen tablet, something she hadn't been able to do for a while. She refused to show us any of what she had done, but said she drew so much it blunted the tip of the pen.

She said she put on her current favorite music and just started drawing. She says her favorites have changed since she started in college. "I wonder why." The two groups she named were the smart romantic pop of Radwimp and the imaginative Vocaloid music of SuzukiP.

Here is one selection of SuzukiP's music, and here is a selection of his Vocaloid work. Such as the audio behind this:

Seiyuus in Yukatas -- Hyakka Ryouran/Queen's Blade Live Event

I mentioned this event earlier, but now a fuller report with lots of photos has shown up.

At last weekend's Chara Hobby show, there was a joint event featuring seiyuus from Queen's Blade - Utsukushii no Toushitachi and Hyakka Ryouran - Samurai Girls. Kawasumi Ayako, Noto Mamiko, and Itou Kanae were there from QB, and Yuuki Aoi and Kotobuki Minako were there from HR. (That's the order in the photo, left to right. Click photo for original size.)

The first part of the show was a talk session, then they got down to business and the relaxed atmosphere vanished as the group of professional seiyuus dubbed a scene. The report says:
The five showed us what they really look like at work. The tremendous intensity of their expressions was the real thing. The way they held their scripts, their distance from the mikes, the volume of their voices -- you really got a feeling of their various differences. In an instant, they showed us just how amazing pros really are.
Here are some photos. Many more can be found on the originating page, especially in the slide show at the bottom of that page:

Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls -- Characters/Seiyuus Pics/Info

Boobfest comedy fighting anime Hyakka Ryouran -- Samurai Girls is due to start in October, but episode one will be broadcast as a preview on Friday.

The animation looks good and the cast is very interesting: Yuuki Aoi, Kugimiya Rie, Kotobuki Minako, Kobayashi Yuu, Gotou Saori, Koshimizu Ami, Toyosaki Aki, Hirakawa Daisuke, Sakurai Takahiro. So I've already made a characters/seiyuus page to keep them all straight.

The page shows pics of the ten main characters and their seiyuus, with a bit of info about each seiyuu. Click here or on the image to go to the full page.

I'm not sure I'll keep watching this -- I didn't continue with Queen's Blade or any Ikkitousen show -- but the presence of Yuuki Aoi and other great seiyuus makes me eager to see episode one.

Yuuki Aoi Wants to Communicate

At the Chara Hobby show this past weekend, Yuuki Aoi and Kotobuki Minako represented their fall show Hyakka Ryouran - Samurai Girls in a joint live event with the new Queen's Blade series.

In the photo, she and Kotobuki-san (left) are the bookends, with Itou Kanae, Noto Mamiko, and Kawasumi Ayako of Queen's Blade in the middle. Minako and Aoi are both 18, but as a post on 2channel says, they look almost like mother and child.

In her blog today, Yuuki falls all over herself thanking fans for their support and their communications, both in person at events and in writing. "Without you all, I don't know what meaning I would have," she writes.

Just as in the previous event, for another of her new shows, Sore demo Machi ga Mawatteiru, she was amazed, flattered, and energized by the shouts of "Ao-chan" from the crowd. She has suddenly become a popular seiyuu on 2channel, getting 20 posts a day in the thread just completed, and starting the new thread (#7) at 29 posts a day.

Her popularity comes for good reason, in my opinion, since she is so extremely talented, both in her vocal strength, and in her acting. Directors evidently agree, since she has roles in five new series and an OVA this fall, as well as continuing in Shiki.

Here is a full translation of Yuuki's blog post:

The Most Beautiful Seiyuus -- 2channel's choices

There's a new thread on 2channel asking people to list the seiyuus they think are beautiful (美人だと思う声優). That's beautiful (bijin) as opposed to cute (kawaii).

The top name on the list? Nazuka Kaori, the big, athletic seiyuu with the tiny voice who played Eureka in Eureka Seven. "Broad Shoulders-san" has nine votes.

Next comes Kobayashi Yuu. The tall, elegant and strange "Master Painter" has seven votes.

Next, tied at six votes each, come Tanaka Rie and Horie Yui.

Here is a table showing photos of all the seiyuus who have received more than one vote so far:
